Hanoi (VNA) –
The Health
Ministry, along with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the
, held a meeting in Hanoi on November 21 to respond
to the (November 18-24).

At the event, Director of the Health
Ministry’s Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Luong Ngoc
Khue stressed that antibiotic resistance poses an increasing threat to both
humans and Vietnam’s economy due to the widespread and uncontrolled use of
antibiotic in health care and animal husbandry. This is a problem of the world,
especially in developing countries, he said.

Vietnam has responded to the World
Health Organisation’s call on fighting antibiotic resistance since 2013, and is
among the first countries to build a national action plan for combating
antibiotic resistance for 2013-2020.

Taking note of Vietnam’s progress
in the fight, the WHO Representative in Vietnam Kidong Park and FAO
Representative in Vietnam Albert
T.Lieberg pledged continued support for Vietnam.

The World Antibiotic Awareness
Week aims to increase awareness of global antibiotic resistance and to
encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policy
makers to avoid the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance./.
