Khanh Hoa (VNA) – The central province of Khanh Hoa has raised the warning level for the Zika virus as well as taken more measures to prevent the disease at its international airport and seaports.

The and five international seaports, namely Huyndai Vinashin, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Dam Mon, and Van Phong, have been provided with and staff working round the clock for monitoring and detecting the disease.

Anti-outbreak mobile teams were set up to help with the work at the ports. The province will launch a campaign encouraging locals to eliminate mosquito larva.

The measures were prompted by the information about an Australian visitor who tested positive for Zika after returning from Vietnam.

The Australian visitor stayed in Vietnam from February 26 to March 6 and travelled to Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan provinces during that time.

After returning to Australia, the person showed some symptoms of Zika infection such as fever, rash, headache, muscle pain, conjunctivitis and nausea.

The ministry has sent staff to Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan to make verification and instruct tightening Zika prevention measures.

According to the , 59 countries and territories have recorded so far. Some foreigners after leaving several Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia were also reported to test positive for Zika.-VNA
