Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi Health Department
has announced the first death from dengue fever since the beginning of this
year.

 

The Central Tropical Diseases Hospital on May 21 confirmed that a 19-year-old student who rented a house in Dong Da District’s Trung Liet Ward died of dengue.

In Hanoi, the number of patients with dengue
fever has shown a tendency of increasing since early this month, with 27 cases
recorded in the last two weeks. 

Since the beginning of the year, the city has
recorded more than 700 cases of dengue fever, up 2.1 times compared with the
same period last year, according to the statistics of the
preventive health centre.

Most of the cases were reported in the districts
of , , and Thanh Xuan.

The city’s has directed
medical units to strengthen the implementation of measures to prevent the
disease, particularly, providing information on the epidemic situation to
locals and guiding them on how to prevent the disease.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the
bite of an infected mosquito. There is no specific vaccine and treatment
for dengue. – VNA
