Hanoi (VNA) – A batch of 852,480 doses arrived
in Hanoi on September 16, according to the German Embassy in Vietnam and the United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The batch of vaccine was
donated by the German Government to Vietnam via the COVAX Facility with close collaboration among the UNICEF, the World Health Organisation (WHO)
and the Vietnamese Government.

German Ambassador to Vietnam Guido Hildner affirmed that Germany always stands side
by side with Vietnam in the fight against pandemic.
Germany and the European Union support the global campaign for fair and
transparent access to vaccines via the COVAX Facility, he added.

United Nations Resident Coordinator ad interim and WHO Representative in
Vietnam Dr. Kidong Park thanked the German Government and people for sharing the vaccine with the Vietnamese people through the COVAX Facility.

He expressed his support for the Vietnamese
Government’s policy of giving priority to vaccinating medical and frontline workers, the elderly, those with underlying
diseases and those with the highest risk of contracting serious illness or death.

With the new batch, Vietnam received 12,578,110 vaccine doses via the COVAX
Facility – a joint effort among the WHO, the Coalition for Epidemic
Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the Global Alliance for
Vaccines (GAVI) with UNICEF as a key delivery partner.

By the year-end,
Germany is scheduled to provide 100 million vaccine doses to developing and emerging
countries while the European Union will offer at least 200 million doses. So
far, the European country has delivered over 8 million AstraZeneca doses to the ./.
