HCM City (VNA) – With the support of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (), the HCM City University of Medicine and will offer the training course “Updated diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular disease and stroke” from May 2-11.

Professors of radiology, interventional neuroradiology and neurosurgery from the US, Canada, France, South Africa and Thailand along with Vietnamese counterparts will give lectures and explain best practices during the course, the first of its kind in the country, said Dr Tran Chi Cuong, President of the Interventional Neuroradiology Society of HCM City.

More than 200,000 people suffer from stroke in the country every year and the fatality rate of stroke remains high, Cuong said.

The country has fewer than 10 hospitals that could provide emergency, intervention and treatment for strokes, he said.

Training and technical transfer for treatment of strokes at provincial hospitals is urgent, especially for the detection and treatment of patients with acute stroke.

The course will feature the latest knowledge and techniques in neuro-imaging , ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, neuro-vascular anatomy and pathology as well as updated guidelines on endovascular for acute ischemic stroke.-VNA
