Hanoi (VNA) – The announced the 77th and 78th COVID-19
related deaths on June 29 morning.

Both were
men from Ho Chi Minh City with severe underlying conditions.

The
77th patient, 77 years old, lived in Binh Tan district. He tested positive for
coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on June 26 and was transferred to Trung Vuong Hospital
for treatment while he was in a coma and had difficulty breathing.

Before
contracting COVID-19, he was suffering from sequelae of cerebrovascular disease
for four years, weakness in the right half of his body, unable to speak, and
had high blood pressure.

He
died on June 20. The cause of death was recorded as severe pneumonia caused by
COVID-19, complications of and septic shock.

The
78th patient, 54 years old, lived in district 1. He tested positive for the
virus on June 19 and was transferred to the Trung Vuong Hospital for treatment
on June 24. He died on June 26.

Prior
to the virus, he was suffering from hypertension, type 2 diabetes and chronic
kidney disease.

The
cause of death was recorded as severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19, respiratory
failure, multi-organ failure and septic shock.

Also
on June 29 morning, Vietnam recorded an additional 102 new cases,
including 94 domestic and eight imported.

Among
the domestic cases, 54 were detected in HCM City, 14 in Hung Yen, 11 in Bac
Giang, eight in Ha Tinh, three in Bac Ninh, two in Hai Phong and one each in
Dong Thap and Lang Son.

The
new infections brought the national count to 16,238, including 14,452 domestic
and 1,786 imported cases. As many as 6,519 patients already recovered from the
disease.

The
number of locally-transmitted cases since the fourth wave of outbreaks hit the
country on April 27 rose to 12,882, including 3,745 recoveries.

Among
active patients, 319 have tested negative to the virus once, 143 twice and 158
thrice./.
