Hanoi (VNA) – The (RoK) on May 7 confirmed that its fourth national to contract the had recently returned from a trip to Vietnam.
According to the General Department of Preventive Medicine, the 25-year-old woman worked in Ho Chi Minh City between April 10 and 30 and got a rash on April 28 after being bitten by mosquitoes.
She returned to the RoK on May 1 and tested positive on May 7 when she visited the Catholic University of Korea Incheon St. Mary’s hospital in the western city of Incheon.
The woman is suspected to have contracted Zika in Vietnam as the country found one of two Zika cases in Thanh My Loi commune, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City in early April.
Vietnam’s health authorities have requested the RoK provide more details on where the patient worked, lived and travelled during her time in Vietnam.
The Ministry of Health has tightened controls on tests of persons with suspected Zika infections nationwide.
It also recommended people take measures to protect themselves from mosquito bites and eliminate mosquitoes and larvae in their neighbourhood.-VNA
