Medical checkup fees will decrease by 15-20 percent as from July 15 when a
circular issued by the regulating uniform prices for medical
checkup and for insurance card holders in hospitals across
the country takes effect.

According to Nguyen
Nam Lien, head of the Health Ministry’s Department of Planning and Finance, under
the circular, will be reduced by between 4,800 VND (0.12
USD)-5,900 VND (0.25 USD) depending on the category of the hospital.

For example, a medical
checkup at a special-level hospital will cost 33,100 VND under the circular
instead of the previous 39,000 VND, while the fee at a second-level hospital
will be 29,600 VND instead of the present 35,000 VND.

At the same time,
prices for hospital beds will also drop from 632,200 VND (27.8 USD) to 615,600
VND (27.06 VND) per day in level-1 hospital. Price of bed in the emergency unit
in level-4 hospitals will also decline from the present 226,000 VND (9.94 USD) to
221,200 VND (9.73 USD).

Notably, some treatment
services’ prices will also fall sharply. The cost for a tonsillitis surgery will
drop from 3.6 million VND (158.4 USD) to 2 million VND (88 USD).

The circular, which
was issued in June 18, also gives guidelines on the calculation of prices for medical
services in some specific cases.-VNA
